Report on the conference "Foreign Securities in Russia"

On 6 February, 2008 in Moscow the Not-for-Profit Partnership "The National Depository Center"(NDC) organized a conference "Foreign Securities in Russia".  The Association of Eurasian Central Securities Depositories (AECSD) was a conference partner; The Professional Association of Registrars, Transfer Agents and Depositories (PARTAD) and Depositarium magazine were the information partners for the conference.

The conference was attended by 250 participants which shows increased interest of Russian market in operations with foreign securities.  One of the key topics was the expanded circulation and recording of foreign financial instruments on the Russian stock market and the procedures for their qualification as securities.

Other topics discussed at the conference included:

• Trading of foreign securities, including issues of CIS companies
• Recording ownership rights on foreign securities
• Information disclosure in relation to foreign securities and corporate actions
• Complexity and peculiarities, related to servicing and processing foreign securities by different Russian securities market participants
• Perspectives of attracting foreign securities to the Russian stock market

Among the participants in the discussion were representatives of the Federal Financial Markets Service (FFMS), MICEX CJSC, MICEX Stock Exchange, NDC, NAUFOR, the central depositories of the CIS countries, global custodians, major banks and leading investment companies.

The conference participants stressed its practical importance and expressed their willingness to continue cooperation to promote trading with foreign securities on the Russian market.
